Rava Upma ( Rave Uppittu | Sooji Upma )



Preparation time: 10 Minutes | Cook time: 20 Minutes


Rava ( Sooji ) – 1 Cup

Water – 1 and ½ Cup

Onion – 1

Green Chilli – 4

Potato – 1 Small

Tomato – 1

Curry Leaves – 5

Coriander Leaves – ½ Cup

Oil – 7 tbsp

Mustard Seeds – 1 tbsp

Chana Dal – 1 tbsp

Salt to Taste


  • Add Rava to a pan. Dry fry until its light golden. Keep it Aside.
  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add Mustard Seeds wait until it Crackle then add Chana dal fry until it turns light brown.
  • Add Chopped Green Chilli, Curry Leaves, Onion cook about 2 Minutes.
  • Add Chopped Potato cook about 3 Minutes.
  • Add Chopped tomato cook about 2 Minutes.
  • Add Water and Salt. Close the lid and let it boil for 2 minutes.
  • Open the lid. Add rava to the boiling water keep on stirring make sure no lumps are formed. Close the lid. Cook about 2 minutes on low flame. Let Rava Observes water Completely.
  • Add Coriander Leaves and mix well.

Hot Rava Upma is Ready to Serve.
