Kayi anna (coconut rice)


Preparation time: 15 Minutes | Cook time: 25 Minutes


Grated coconut – 1 cup

Onion – 1

Green chilli – 3

Ginger – 1 inch

Garlic – 3

Cinnamon powder – pinch

Clove powder – pinch

Coriander leaves – ¼ cup

Oil – 4 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp

Basmati Rice – 1 cup

Water – 1 and half cups

Bay leaf – 1

Salt to taste


  • Add Grated coconut, onion, green chilli, ginger, garlic, cinnamon powder, clove powder, coriander leaves to a blender. Blend it to a nice paste.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add mustard seeds wait until it crackle then add bay leaf. Saute for a second.
  • Add onion fry until it turns light brown.
  • Add blended paste and mix well.
  • Wash and add rice to the cooker. Mix well with masala and add water, salt. Cook about 2 whistles.
  • Once cooked takeout on to a serving plate.

Hot Kayi anna is ready to serve.
