Kayigojju anna (Coconut chilli rice)


Preparation time: 10 Minutes | Cook time: 10 Minutes


For blending

Grated coconut – ½ cup

Green chilli – 4

Onion – ½

Coriander leaves – ½ cup

Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp

Turmeric powder – ¼ tbsp

Cinnamon powder – pinch

Clove powder – pinch

For tempering

Onion – 2

Curry leaves – 8

Mustard seeds – ½ tbsp

Chana dal – ½ tbsp.

Oil – ½ cup

Rice – 2 cups

Water – 1/4 cup

Salt to taste


  • To a blender add all the blending ingredients. Blend it to a nice paste by adding enough water. Keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds wait until it crackle then add chana dal. Saute until it turns light brown.
  • Add curry leaves and chopped onion. Fry until it turns light brown.
  • Add blended paste, salt. Mix well. Add water if mixture is too thick. Cook for about 1 minute.
  • To a bowl add rice and enough prepared mixture. Mix well. Add salt if needed. Takeout to a serving plate.

Kayigojju anna is ready to serve.
